Dr Richard Graham, Consultant Psychiatrist and Member of The Soke’s Clinical Board

Dr Richard Graham is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist working with children and adolescents, with expertise across general psychiatry and specialist areas including anxiety, depression, OCD, and ADHD. He also facilitates ADHD assessments and contributes to clinical governance as a member of the clinical board.

Dr Graham is known for his collaborative and client-centered approach, combining evidence-based interventions with practical strategies tailored to each young person and their family. His style emphasises understanding the unique context of each client, fostering engagement, and supporting long-term resilience.

He has a particular interest in the impact of technology on mental health. He pioneered the assessment of how online harms may contribute to or exacerbate mental health difficulties and developed approaches to support recovery, including helping young people experiencing problematic online behaviours.

In 2010, Dr Graham established the first Technology Addiction service for young people in the UK and contributed to the World Health Organization’s international classification of ‘Gaming Disorder’. He has advised the UK Council for Internet Safety, worked with the BBC as consultant to the Own It app, and consulted for companies including TikTok and Yubo, helping integrate developmental insights into digital wellbeing strategies.

Outside his practice at The Soke, Dr Graham serves on the Ofcom Making Sense of Media Advisory Panel, works with the Royal College of Psychiatrists as Online Harms Lead, Child & Adolescent Faculty, and collaborates with the teenage mental health charity stem4.

Dr Graham earned his MBBS from the University of London and MRCPsych from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. In 2023, he was awarded a Fellowship from the Royal College of Psychiatrists in recognition of his contribution to child and adolescent psychiatry.
