Joan Parnell is a highly experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Mental Health Nurse who works with children, adolescents, families, and adults. She supports individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and low self-esteem. Joan also works with individuals with ADHD and autism, providing practical and compassionate support that is tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals.
As a CBT therapist, Joan helps clients identify and understand unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours, working collaboratively to bring about lasting, positive change. She integrates approaches such as motivational enhancement therapy, mindfulness, and guided self-help, adapting her style sensitively to suit the individual and their circumstances.
Joan has extensive experience across NHS and private mental health settings. She began her career as a registered Mental Health Nurse before gaining a Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling from Birkbeck College, University of London. She went on to complete Postgraduate Diplomas in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at Royal Holloway, University of London, and in Play Therapy at Roehampton University.
