Dr Hazel Fernandes, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Hazel Fernandes is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who works with children, teenagers and their families to navigate a wide range of mental health challenges. Her clinical work spans eating disorders, neurodevelopmental differences, and complex emotional and behavioural presentations in young people.
With an international medical background, Dr Fernandes began her career in medicine before specialising in psychiatry, drawn by a strong interest in how early life experiences, pregnancy and family relationships shape mental wellbeing. She completed her psychiatric training in Ireland and went on to specialise in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, gaining experience across community services, hospital-based care and specialist paediatric mental health teams.
Dr Fernandes has worked extensively alongside paediatricians, therapists and other allied professionals in both inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting children with acute and long‑term mental health needs. She brings particular depth of expertise to the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, as well as neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and autism.
She holds a Master’s degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and has undertaken additional specialist training in infant mental health, family-based approaches and evidence‑based treatments for adolescent eating disorders. Her work is grounded in collaboration, careful formulation and an understanding of the whole system around a child — including family, medical and environmental factors.
Dr Fernandes is known for her thoughtful, compassionate approach and her commitment to working closely with families to support sustainable emotional wellbeing and healthy development.
