Dr Theresa Schwaiger, Chartered Clinical Psychologist

Dr Theresa Schwaiger is a clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience working with infants, children, adolescents, young adults and parents in a range of clinical settings. She works with a wide range of difficulties, for instance, anxiety, low mood, trauma and PTSD, addictions, low self-esteem, distress in relationships, loss and complicated family dynamics.

Theresa’s therapeutic approach is integrative and evidence-based, she draws on different methods depending on what is needed, including family therapy, CBT, attachment and trauma-focused therapy and psychodynamic approaches. She is trained in Mentalization-based Treatment for Children and Families (MBT-C, MBT-F), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for adults and children, Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (including trauma-focused CBT), Transcultural Psychological Therapies, and Parent Support programmes.

As a practitioner, Theresa is warm and empathic, she believes in respectful, open, collaborative practice, and is guided by what children, young people and families want to focus on or what they bring to their sessions. Depending on what may be helpful and age appropriate, she uses a mix of play, talking and drawing, and a combination of individual and family sessions. Theresa’s overarching goal in her work is to support children, young people and parents/carers to make sense of their lives in a way that feels less distressing and that enables them to feel more secure and comfortable within themselves and in their relationships.

She practices fluently in English and German.
