Dr Alex Law, Clinical Psychologist
Alex provides a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space in which clients can make sense of what they are experiencing and begin to understand the patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Her approach is collaborative and formulation-led: rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach or focusing only on symptoms, she works with each person to understand how their difficulties have developed, what may be maintaining them, and what might help them move towards meaningful and sustainable change.
Alex works particularly well with people experiencing anxiety, stress and burnout, difficulties regulating emotions, nervous system dysregulation, low self-esteem and self-criticism, relationship or interpersonal difficulties, grief and loss, trauma, body image and eating difficulties, and periods of significant change or adjustment.
Alex has a particular interest in working therapeutically with ADHD, autism and neurodivergence, and specialises in supporting adults who have been diagnosed or recognised as neurodivergent later in life. She works from a neuro-affirmative perspective, helping clients better understand themselves and their needs rather than viewing neurodivergent differences as something that needs to be “fixed”.
For people wondering whether they may have ADHD, Alex also offers initial neurodevelopmental screening appointments to discuss their experiences, consider whether ADHD may help explain some of their longstanding difficulties, and think together about appropriate next steps, including whether a formal diagnostic assessment may be helpful.
Alex also has specialist expertise in the psychology of eating, weight and body image. This includes providing psychological support alongside GLP-1 medications such as Mounjaro and Wegovy. She supports people to navigate the psychological and behavioural changes that can accompany treatment, including changes in appetite and eating patterns, emotional eating, relationships with food, body image and identity, and developing sustainable ways of caring for themselves alongside medication.
Her therapeutic style is integrative, drawing on approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and polyvagal-informed approaches. Therapy may involve developing practical strategies for managing difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours, alongside exploring the deeper emotional experiences and patterns underlying them. Alex places particular emphasis on helping clients develop greater self-understanding, psychological flexibility and compassion towards themselves.
Alex holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Royal Holloway, University of London, an MSc from King's College London and a BSc in Psychology from the University of Exeter.
